Curaçao is one of my favorite Caribbean options for travelers who want to do more than stay at their resort all week. The island combines clear turquoise water and beautiful beaches with colorful Willemstad, excellent snorkeling and diving, and a distinctly Dutch-Caribbean personality that makes it feel different from many other Caribbean destinations.
Families can absolutely enjoy Curaçao, but I think it's especially well suited to travelers who like some independence on vacation. Renting a car can open up access to smaller beaches, restaurants and different parts of the island, while Willemstad gives you shopping, dining, history and colorful architecture to explore when you want a break from the beach.
Choosing where to stay depends heavily on the kind of vacation you want. Some travelers prefer being closer to Willemstad and having easier access to restaurants and sightseeing, while others would rather stay at a beachfront resort farther from the city. Curaçao also has both traditional resorts and all-inclusive options, but I wouldn't automatically choose all-inclusive here. Exploring the island can be a big part of the experience.
Curaçao is also appealing for travelers concerned about Caribbean hurricane season because of its southern location, outside the main hurricane belt. That doesn't guarantee perfect weather, but combined with the island's beaches, culture and opportunities to explore, it makes Curaçao an interesting alternative to some of the better-known Caribbean destinations.

I like Curaçao for travelers who don't want their Caribbean vacation to begin and end at the resort. The beaches are beautiful, but part of the fun is exploring Willemstad, finding different coves and beaches, and getting out on the water. I wouldn't automatically book an all-inclusive here unless that's genuinely the experience you want. For families and couples who enjoy having a resort as their home base but still want to explore, Curaçao can be a really fun alternative to a more traditional resort-only Caribbean vacation.
